Red, White and Love

I don’t love Valentine’s Day for the gifts, the chocolates or the mushy card. I love it because it’s a day dedicated to showing the person or persons in your life how much YOU love THEM. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a mushy card but who it’s from is what puts a smile on my face and melts my heart. Life becomes so busy and chaotic with four kiddos that we probably don’t celebrate our love enough. This year, Valentine’s Day is a little more symbolic for us.

Obviously, I began this blog to dedicate towards fashion, lifestyle and entertaining. However, for this post, I am going to get a little personal. Seven months ago I endured 3 surgeries totaling 14 hours, a slew of other complications including waking up paralyzed in my left leg, and wasn’t able to see my children for 3  weeks. You can read more about my story on my blog, Scolimom.com. My husband didn’t leave my side and up until just recently played the role of mom, chef and housekeeper while I struggled to get better. He has supported me through the roughest time in my life and I love him so much more than I ever thought was possible. This journey is far from over but with Neil by my side, I feel like we can accomplish anything.

Today, since he works late tonight, we decided to go on a brunch date while our kids were in school. Nicky, our 2 year old, tagged along. I honestly don’t even remember the last time we went out for breakfast and as Nicky squashed all of the marmalade jelly packets, we got to actually spend time together and talk. Although short lived, it was nice.

I took a few quick pictures of my festive Valentine’s outfit today. These items are a few years old, but I have linked some similar pieces that are adorable too! I even threw in some little tweed jackets in other colors!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
