Summercamp Hotel in Martha’s Vineyard

I’ve just returned home from our 2 1/2 week trip to the East Coast. This is the second Summer our daughter, Emma, has been accepted into the Vocal Intensive program at Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music. Last year, we decided to take the boys with us and make a family vacation out of it. We had such a great time, we decided to do it again. When planning our trip, I always knew I wanted to visit Martha’s Vineyard, and I’m so glad we did! We chose the perfect place to stay, Summercamp Hotel in Martha’s Vineyard!

Summercamp Hotel is a playful, boutique hotel situated right on the Oak Bluffs Harbor. This Lark hotel is steps from the ferry terminal, and walking distance to a plethora of dining and shopping options, Summercamp is the ideal destination for the ultimate Martha’s Vineyard experience. Designed as a nod to Oak Bluffs’ history as a summer “camp” destination for the Methodist Church, their whimsically renovated historic hotel invites you to come be a kid again. Summercamp offers a relaxed, stylish “summer camp” vibe approach to a seaside vacation. Along with the sweeping views of the marina, you can also find amenities such as a Camp Canteen with classic snacks and drinks, an astro-turfed game room with ping pong and various other games, and a fun common area with hanging rattan chairs. We drove to Woods Hole from Boston to hop on the Island Queen ferry (there are two ferries tat can take you from Cape Cod to Martha’s Vineyard). After a 35 minute ferry ride, we walked right over to Summercamp. The first thing you see when walking up to Summercamp, is the expansive front porch full of rocking chairs and the gorgeous row of hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are my favorite flower (I have 13 planted in my own yard), and so this was of course what I couldn’t take my eyes off of! It was a sea of blue hydrangeas! Love, love, love!

Our room was amazing! Once we got comfortable, the boys immediately wanted to check out the game room. There they spent two hours playing ping pong. This was also the perfect activity for the kids on the day it rained. They also enjoyed the radio flyer wagon filled with little toys!

During our weekend here, we rented a car so we could explore the island. The amazing staff at Summercamp helped facilitate the rental. I would recommend doing this if you are here for a couple days. The island is pretty large and there are SO MANY cute towns! I’ve listed just a few of the MUST DO below:

• Historic Gingerbread Cottages (walking distance from Summercamp)
• Shopping in Oak Bluffs (walking distance from Summercamp)
• Order a lobster roll and fried clams at Nancy’s (walking distance from Summercamp)
• Get late night Back Door Donuts (this is a MUST and walking distance from Summercamp)
• Rent a car (or take the free bus) to Edgartown
• Design and Make a fun Sweatshirt at BROdenim in Edgartown
• While in Edgartown, walk over to the beach and the Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse
• Take a trip to the Gay Head Lighthouse in Aquinnah
• Relax with coffee on the Summercamp porch overlooking the harbor
• Drive over the Jaws Bridge (or jump off of it)!
• Eat lunch at Fish in Vineyard Haven (loved the lobster tacos)
• Coffee at Mocha Mott’s (seriously the best iced mocha I’ve ever had and walking distance from Summercamp)
• Head to the beach for a beach day
