Aaaaahhhh Heritage House Resort, oh how we love visiting you! Neil and I went for a quick weekend getaway up to our favorite place to relax in Mendocino County. It’s so nice to be able to take these little weekend vacations away just the two of us. We get a chance to reconnect, relax and unwind and we could think of no better place to do that than Heritage House Resort.
Nestled in Mendocino’s rocky Pacific coastline, Heritage House Resort’s unmatched ocean views soothe just about anyone’s soul. The ocean view combined with their amazing food makes this one of Neil and my destinations of choice. This full service Resort also offers spa services, a workout room with yoga and fun bartending classes on the weekends! I also love that it’s just a quick three hour drive from the Bay Area and a gorgeous one at that! Cruising through the Redwoods in an experience in itself. So magical.
We dropped the kids off at school and headed out on our mini journey knowing they were in great care with their loving grandparents. Let’s face it, the kids actually cheered with joy when they learned we were leaving for two nights. Ha ha! It makes it easier to leave them when we know they will have fun the whole time as well. We arrived a little after lunch just as the rain clouds began to pass and the sun peered out. We walked into the reception area which is located in the most adorable quaint yellow cottage, and I feel as though I was transported into a storybook or fairytale. Surrounded by vines and flowers, the main house is one of my favorite places on the resort. Since we were starving, we went straight to the HHR lounge to grab a bite to eat and wait for our room to be ready.

I am being 100% honest when I say the food here is amazing! Last time we visited, Neil and I ventured out and tried various other places, but we came to the conclusion that the food at Heritage House Resort was by far the best in the area. So, this time, we decided to just eat most meals here! For lunch, we ordered the warm crab dip and steak sandwiches. If you have been a long time follower of mine, you KNOW that crab is my favorite thing on Earth. Well….that and lobster. The dip was phenomenal and I basically licked the bowl clean. I’m not joking.
We requested the same room we stayed in the previous visit because the view from the private deck is THAT AMAZING. Need a video visual? Go to my Instagram profile, here, and check out the highlights for Mendocino in my profile! All we planned to do this weekend was drink champagne in our HHR robes on that deck….and so we did.
Later that evening, we headed back down to the main house for drinks on the ocean view deck followed by dinner at their restaurant, 5200. We ordered cocktails and a couple appetizers. It was the perfect start to our evening as we sat by the fire and watched the waves crash into the rugged coast. I also wanted to give a special shout out to Peach, our waitress that night. She was amazing and made our dinner most enjoyable. After dinner, we walked back to our room, put those white robes back on and sat out on the deck. Neil did his best impressions of taking elevator rides, canoe rides etc and I laughed so hard I cried. I love tipsy Neil. He doesn’t appear that often, but when he rarely does, it’s fantastic! Insert laughing/crying emoji.
The next morning, I was ecstatic to see they added Crab Benedict to their breakfast menu! We scarfed down breakfast, walked the grounds for a bit and then headed out to Mendocino to do some window shopping and visit Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. The wind was unreal, so shooting pictures there was just not in the cards. However, Point Cabrillo is definitely somewhere I would recommend visiting if you are up in this area. The coastline is just so beautiful! If you find some time, the quaint downtown strip of Mendocino is also a fun place to check out. We popped into a deli, ate crab melts and picked up some chocolate treats for the kids. They also have various art galleries, jewelry stores and fun restaurants.

Back at Heritage House, we walked down to their private beach to watch the sunset and collect abalone shells. We ended out night with a nightcap on our private deck overlooking the gorgeous pacific ocean. We even saw two seals swimming around!
On our drive home, we stopped by this charming place called Penny Royal Farm. It’s a family owned winery and farmstead. The wine is delicious and the cheese….OH THE CHEESE! Did I mention my favorite thing after crab and lobster is cheese? This is a great place to stop to grab lunch on the go and sit for awhile. We ordered the charcuterie board and it did not disappoint. Neil and I ended up purchasing their laychee goat cheese and some fresh mustard to take home with us (the cheese was devoured the next day).
These two days went by soooo fast! I can’t say enough how much Neil and I love this resort! The staff, the food, the scenery and views…..it’s all perfection. I can’t wait until we return for a third visit soon. These little trips really do bring Neil and I closer and the quality one on one time is priceless. Sometimes, it’s so busy and chaotic during the week, we barely get to talk or see each other without the kids jumping all over us. The moments spent together alone are just as important for us and I’m grateful that we live close to our parents who can take care of our four crazy but adorable children! If you are looking for the perfect place to relax, look no further than Heritage House Resort.

The view from the deck of the ocean and watching the seals sound so relaxing. I could just sit there all night. It sounds like the perfect getaway when I just want to relax and enjoy some great food at the resort without having to go out.
