Our California Coastal Guest Room Reveal

Have you been following along on Instagram? If you have, you’d know I’ve been up to my eyeballs with DIY projects and finishing our latest home project. Since buying our home, we’ve done a fair share of renovating and decorating to fit our personalized aesthetic. Luckily, Neil has been on board with moooossstt of my projects and it’s been fun transforming our house. This month……..den turned guest room with a California Coastal vibe.

After the school year finished, I decided the den needed a drastic change after a year of distace learning happening in that room. I’m going to go ahead and say it……..that den did not make me happy after spending countless hours sequestered in there with our 8 year old doing schoolwork. There were crayons ground into the carpet, pencil stabbings all over my white Pottery Barn desk, along with stained chocolate milk circles. It was also used as a storage room for the many things we had no room for when we moved here. I was done looking at this and needed a fresh change.

Most of the time, I just start the project and rope Neil into helping. I have found over the years in our marriage, that’s the only way it will get done. Plus, I’m really handy with a nail gun and don’t mind doing it!

First, I painted the statement wall, “In The Navy” by Sherwin Williams. This is the same color of our front door, which I LOVE. We have done a few statement walls now, and this by far was the easiest one to finish. We chose 1 1/2 inch wide wood trim (side note: we picked one that didn’t have a very large profile so we wouldn’t have to take the existing baseboards off). We used our nail gun and a small amount of liquid nails. Then, I painted the panels and voila! I painted the rest of our walls a crisp white to help keep it bright.

I wanted a fun patterned headboard to help take this space to the next level. Don’t worry…EVERYTHING is linked below. It’s reasonably priced and I’m a huge fan of plaid and gingham, so this was the perfect balance to go with the navy wall. The sconces are an awesome deal ($69) and identical to some I found for $700 and the side tables were $110 while the identical designer brand ones were $1000! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE me some designer anything. However, this room needed a mixture of both to keep it under budget.

Since I use this room for editting and writing, I still wanted some type of work station for that. This secretary desk is probably my favorite piece in the room! It’s compact, the quality is amazing and it even has a built in outlet and USB charger. I love that I can get work done and hide it all away when guests come. This desk also comes in an assortment of colors! Heck yeah! I also re-upolstered the antique chair with a chinoiserie print using a staple gun and a glue gun. This Mama has become pretty well versed in how to use tools.

What can I say about the swinging egg chair…..Who doesn’t want a swinging egg chair in their house! Ha ha! It’s the perfect addition to bringing my California Coastal vibe to life. Neil purchased 5-6 different hooks from Amazon to see which worked better. Just make sure you are securing it to solid wood.

Take a peak below and let me know what you think! I’m really happy with how this room turned out and I hope you love the inspiration. Now, I need to get back to the kids bathroom. I just started painting it blue on a whim this morning…sorry Neil…..
