Create a Cozy Focal Point: DIY Shiplap Fireplace for Your Bedroom

This is a sponsored post. However, all my thoughts and opinions are my own.

It’s another DIY project! After finishing our living room project (linked HERE), Neil and I decided we just HAD to have this fireplace/mantel feature in our bedroom! We absolutely loved how our living room turned out and wanted to recreate a similar version in our primary bedroom. Working together with Touchstone and Dakota Timber Company, we got our tool belts on and got to work to create a Cozy Focal Point: DIY Shiplap Fireplace for Your Bedroom.

Poor Neil…..I rope him into so many DIY projects. Luckily, he’s easily persuaded by my charm (most of the time), HA! Plus, doing it ourselves saves us SO MUCH MONEY! This project may seem daunting to some. However, it’s actually pretty easy if you follow my tips and tricks. Make sure you game plan the project and measure everything twice. Our bedroom ended up being even easier because we didn’t install built-in cabinets and have to make cabinet tops. I found the most adorable AND affordable blue dressers to flank each side of our shiplap wall.

We built the base out of 2×4’s easily found at any Home Depot or Lowes. The most important thing to remember is to reinforce where the fireplace will sit as well as where the mantel will be installed. You’ll need a nail gun (we like the Ryobi line), liquid nails, and a saw.

Neil built a shelf to house the brains of our Samsung Frame TV. Leaving a large rectangle hole behind the TV also gives us access, if need be, to the Samsung box and cords.  Once the framing and shiplap was complete, I took over and caulked and painted. I used Sherwin Williams “Extra White” in semi gloss for the shiplap. We used 1 inch corner trim to give the corners a clean and finished look.

Dakota Timber Company

Dakota Timber Company did an OUTSTANDING job on our white oak mantel and shelves for our living room. So, naturally, it was a given to have them make our mantel for this room too. Dakota Timber Co. manufactures high-quality, American made wood products with an emphasis on sustainability and low impact production. They are based out of Fargo, North Dakota and source their wood from retired buildings, urban tree removals as well as other sustainable sources. Dakota Timber Company’s most popular products to date are tabletops, floating shelves, mantels, shiplap, tongue and groove paneling, stair treads, and beams. Also FYI, they have ready to ship mantels and shelves if you need something ASAP. Otherwise, they absolutely can handle custom orders! You can find their products, HERE.

Touchstone Home Products

A Pennsylvania family business since 2005, President Evan Bradlee is a second generation leader who started in the family warehouse as a teenager and leads with a focus on customer satisfaction and customer excellence. Not only are they innovators of quality electric fireplaces, they also provide TV lift cabinets and TV lift mechanisms. With a vast selection to choose from, they have a fireplace product to fit everyone’s needs! We installed the 60 inch Sideline Deluxe in Gold in our living room, and have been extremely happy with the look and quality! To keep the rooms conhesive, we ordered a matching one for our bedroom! I have the exact model linked below!

We are thrilled with how this DIY project turned out! What do you think? Comment below!
