5 Ways To Get Healthy In 2019

So, yeah……2019 is here guys! It feels so weird writing that. The last year, for me, has flown by. One thing I have thought about when reflecting on the last year is I want to start making healthier choices and all around just become healthier in general. Today on CCG, I wanted to discuss 5 ways to get healthy in 2019 which are on the top on my list this year!

5 Ways to Get Healthy In 2019

One big misconception I think people have of me, is that I must diet or workout daily to stay thin. That is simply not the case. In all honesty, I have never actually worked out in a gym except for physical therapy after my huge surgeries. I have also never dieted or managed what I eat. In fact, I eat an enormous amount of crap food and sweets. Just ask my husband! The reality is, I actually have a hard time keeping the weight on and just like those who are unhappy with their weight, it’s something I used to struggle with just on the opposite side of the spectrum. In the last couple years, I have come a long way when it comes to body positivity and not being afraid to show the real me, scars and all. I think it’s super important to be accepting and comfortable with your body regardless of size, shape or in my case, a deformity. Anyhoo, let’s not get side tracked on what this post is for. This post isn’t about dieting or the new exercises that are going to sculpt your booty. Today, I wanted to share what I am doing to get healthy in 2019.

1. Drink More Water, Less Coffee

I am REALLY going to try and do this. I will totally admit, I drink a 24 oz iced coffee every morning and then, gasp, refill it again halfway through my day. In all my pregnancies, I was a champ when it came to drinking water, but for some reason I have struggled to do it over the last couple years. Water is essential to a healthy body. Water not only maintains the balance of body fluids, it helps energize your muscles and your skin looks clearer. Water also helps with bowel functions. Yeah, I know, that is so not fashionable to read about here, but for me, it’s a big deal after having one foot of colon removed. So basically, drink more water. My new goal is to drink 64 oz of water per day. I’m not a soda drinker, but if you are, replace it with sparkling water and add some lemon!

2. Probiotics Are Your Friend

I have been taking probiotics for the last year and I stand behind this one hundred percent! Not only do I feel less bloated, I actually can feel a huge difference when I take it. It’s all about gut health people! Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for you, especially your digestive system. We usually think of these as germs that cause diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called “good” or “helpful” bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy. Make sure to research brands before just picking any random probiotic. Not all probiotics are created equal.

3. Let’s Get Moving Chica

Okay, okay, okay. Listen, I am not telling you to work yourself ragged at the gym by any means. However, it is proven that light exercise is great for your overall health! After 18 months of PT, I became burnt out. I was so sick of working tirelessly to “fix my leg” that I quit going completely and figured I could do it on my own at ballet class. I have learned that my body will need PT for the rest of my life. It’s like checks and balances. If you are afraid of the gym like me, ha ha, there are awesome You Tube videos or even group classes for beginners to get your body moving. Hell, if you live in the bay area, we have adult ballet classes at my studio! The point is, doing 30 min of exercise and being active is not much but can help your body out a ton! I am vowing to get back into physical therapy this year and sticking with it. So cheer me on and hold me accountable!

4. Stop Eating Fast Food

I will never diet. I will never deprive myself of sour cream or chocolate or my bagels and gobs of cream cheese. I just can’t and won’t. I love food too much. However, and that is a big however, I WILL make healthier choices when it comes to eating out AND incorporating more vegetables into my diet. I confess, I hate veggies. My husband hounds me, my kids hound me, I even hound myself. Again, when I was pregnant all 7 times, I was the perfect vegetable eater. I put those growing babies above my own wants. So, how come I am not putting MY health above my craving for Taco Bell Chalupas now? In October, I made a pact to stop eating all fast food and to make healthier dining options when we aren’t at home. By doing that, I don’t even think twice about going out for it anymore and even the kids are asking for healthier options now. Win win, right? Tonight, I am going to eat a bowl of broccoli with my dinner. My husband may faint, I’ll let you know.

5. Take A Mental Health Day

Take time for yourself and do something you love without having to stress about work or kids. This may be going to see a movie solo or with friends, getting your nails done, or even a whole spa day! Carve time out each week to do something that acts as a stress reliever. Unplug and unwind! It’s just as important to work on your mental health as it is to work on everything else! Let’s face it, your brain can totally do a number on your body too! Stress can cause so many issues within your body and can play a huge role in feeling crummy.

I am hopeful for the new year and excited to live a healthier lifestyle! Do you have 5 ways to get healthy in 2019? Leave me a comment below! I love hearing from my followers and their thoughts on getting healthy this year!

These are such good tips, April. I am limiting my caffeine intake and adding in water to replace it. Also, probiotics are amazing. They’ve helped me so much. I am planning on taking a workout class too. Such a fun way to add excercise in. I’m also definitely trying to limit eating out and especially not eating fast food.
