Our Trip To Holiday House, Palm Springs

My husband, Neil, and I took a much needed trip for the weekend down to Holiday House, Palm Springs. We had never been there before and it was a place I have always wanted to visit. So, my amazing husband made it happen when we found an awesome deal on Groupon for our hotel. I was a little nervous leaving the kiddos for 3 nights.  However, everything went smoothly and we were able to enjoy our vacation.

I was anxious about the long seven hour drive in the car, due to my back and surgery, but surprisingly, I had no issues except for being a little sore. The drive is also much more manageable when you don’t have four whiny bored kids in the back seat. I feel like the long car ride gave us a chance to catch up and talk. It’s really important to take time as a couple and reconnect every once in a while. When you have such a busy daily schedule, it can be hard to make time to do so. Ever since my surgery, we have tried to at least spend time together once a month; even if it’s just going to dinner or a movie.

Our hotel, Holiday House Palm Springs, was the most adorable boutique hotel I had ever seen. As you enter the hotel’s main entrance, it gives off a very fun, retro vibe full of rich shades of blues.  The interior was meticulously styled down to even the smallest detail. Walls are filled with modern abstract art and each piece is perfectly placed. When we made the reservation, I had no idea at the time one of my favorite clothing designers, MDS Stripes/Mark Sikes, decorated and designed the entire hotel. What’s also equally fantastic is that I had a dress from his Summer collection with me. It was fate.

Upon arrival at Holiday House, we were greeted with a complimentary sangria. They also have a café that serves breakfast and lunch which includes my all time favorite food to eat, lobster rolls. After we sucked down our sangria, we made our way over to our room adjacent the main pool gate. Perfect location and the perfect room! We had come to realize they upgraded us to a larger room free of charge. Not only was our room super spacious and decorated fabulously, it had a kitchen with a breakfast nook and bar. It was the perfect place to eat our left overs and drink a glass of wine later in the evening after a day of shopping and roaming the city as well as having our morning cup of coffee and planning out our second day once we woke up. The room included a patio with an outdoor shower.  However, this is something we did not end up using. Maybe next time. I also want to add that our bathroom had a HUGE walk in shower. Did I mention how much I loved it here?

After getting settled, we decided to roam the grounds a bit and check out what our cute little hotel had to offer. My favorite part of the hotel was the outdoor space. Not only do they have a pool you can cool off in, but a great sitting area with misters. In case you are wondering, it was 109 degrees at this point and those misters felt amazing. They also have bikes you can rent complimentary as well as a bocci court. We went back into the bar and I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and we proceeded out to the sitting area to lounge by the pool under the misters.

Feeling a little tipsy, we figured it would be a good idea to find a place to eat for lunch. We decided to eat at a place called, Eight4Nine that was just down the road from the hotel. Here we had a plethora of goodies and the BEST ahi tuna poke bowl we have ever tasted. I had another lobster roll but that didn’t stop me from picking at my husbands meal; something we still crave and want to order again next time we go. The sauce…..oh the sauce! Hands down best poke bowl! If you are in the area, go check this place out. We had a late lunch so it wasn’t busy but you can tell this place becomes quite the hot spot during peak hours. I wish we had experienced it one of the nights we spent out here.

After lunch, we sat by the pool at Holiday House and then rented two of the bikes that are apart of the hotels experience. This was one of my favorite activities my husband and I did. I had some trouble with my leg and riding the bike on the way home, but it was such a fun experience riding around the estates and little communities that are off the main strip. The views of the desert are breathtaking and you almost don’t notice how hot it really is when you are riding down a hill with the wind in your hair. I did say almost. We had so much fun bike riding, that I came home and purchased a bike almost identical. Hopefully I will get stronger and be able to ride it more and more (a side affect from my spinal cord injury).

Since we had a late lunch, our dinner was late as well. We spent the night drinking wine we brought from home. I still do love a sparkling red wine! Exhausted from the long drive and long day of activities, we went to bed. I do want to note how comfortable the bed was even for me! What I loved most were the tons of pillows they provided too. Anyone who knows me, knows I need at least 5 pillows to sleep at night. I know, right? Comes with the territory.

We woke up bright and early and spent the morning in our breakfast nook drinking coffee and figuring out our plans for the day ahead. Our plans that day were for more drinks by the pool, lunch, more pool time, a trip to “that pink door” and an evening of dinner and drinks at The Ritz in Rancho Mirage. I’ll save that for my next post!

I love Palm Springs, you can’t go wrong staying at pretty much any boutique hotel there. I stayed at Ritz RM at the beginning of summer, love it there. The dinner at the steakhouse was insane and the dessert! Love your photos of your weekend, such a cute hotel. xx, Maria
